How To Talk About Death & Dying to a Child

Talking to a child about the death of someone close may be the hardest thing you have ever done or will ever do. However, children do need to be told the truth and it is preferable that it comes from a parent, carer, or someone close to them.

It can be a very confusing and frightening time for a child and they need information appropriate to their development age, involvement and someone who will enable them to express their thoughts and feelings.

Although death is a natural part of life, it cannot always be explained and you may not always have all the answers.  There are a number of things you can say and do when supporting your child.  To help you, we have created a range of age appropriate leaflets and guidance which can be posted to you by calling us on 01636 551739 or by clicking on the links below.

Our website also includes other information to help you talk to a child/children about the death, funeral and their feelings.  Of course, if you need more detailed or specific advice, please contact our bereavement team who can help you on 01636 551739
