The challenge

Last year, 1,300 children, young people and their families directly benefitted from help and guidance from the team at the Children's Bereavement Centre. As part of the marketing and awareness of this year's Daisy Appeal, our challenge is to create 1,300 metres of hand knitted daisy bunting to represent each of the 1,300 families the charity supported in 2023.

And, we need your help...

Crocheters and knitters

If you would like to support the appeal by making daisy bunting, we are able to provide knitting patterns and this is what we are looking for -

  • White petals with yellow middle attached to green wool
  • Daisies to be approx. 10cm apart on the bunting
  • Made in 1m / 5m or 10m bundles
  • Bundles must be labelled with how many metres are in the bag. Please also include your name, address and a contact telephone number
  • Bunting can be delivered or posted to the Children's Bereavement Centre, 3 King's Road, Newark. NG24 1EW. The centre is open Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm

The bunting

Once the bunting has been collated, the team at the charity and Newark and Sherwood District Council will display the daisy chain bunting inside The Buttermarket during the month of June.

The daisy chain challenge will hopefully be the talk of the town, we'd love you to be part of it. There are many ways you can get involved by displaying daisies in your windows, donating white, yellow or green wool, volunteering for the daisy appeal.

If you would like to register your interest to get involved or help create this exciting project, please email Rachel

We are inviting shops and businesses to display daisies to show their support for the appeal.

About the daisy appeal

2024 is the forth year the charity will display daisies in a remembrance exhibit in Newark Castle grounds at the end of June.

Each daisy, which is donated for, is planted in a 'meadow of memories', a special event of remembrance and reflection to remember lost loved ones.

Daisies are the perfect flower, the meaning of a daisy flower can be purity, innocence, and love. Children pick daisies to create daisy chain an interlink galand much like the links of a family.
