Supporting Mental Health through Bereavement and Loss

Supporting children and young people who have been bereaved is rewarding but can also be very challenging.  Grief is just one of the causes of poor mental health that 1 in 6 school-aged children are currently experiencing.

“1 in 29 school children aged 5-16 have been bereaved of a parent or sibling – that is one in every class”

This can impact their behaviour, social interaction, feelings, learning and attendance at school and activities which can also affect the wider community.

Our conference took place on Thursday 22nd November 2022 to help those who support bereaved children and young people. Our conference is designed to help delegates understand the impact of grief, loss, and trauma on a child’s physical, emotional and mental health.  The event was delivered by our team of experienced Bereavement Counsellors, Jo Stockdale, Consultant and Trainer specialising in brain development, social and emotional competence, and wellbeing issues, and Helen Kemp, Lecturer at the University of Lincoln and Psychotherapist in private practice specialising in grief and loss with children and young people.
