Volunteer Administrators

The support given by our Volunteer Administrators is invaluable. They answer enquiries, welcome families to the Centre and assist with processing referrals. They also support with fundraising administration, such as preparing materials for events. We recruit for this role as and when we require additional resource. Our current Volunteer Administrator team:

David Blackmore Volunteer Administrator (Newark)

David is a retired electronics’ engineer and loves helping to look after his eight grandchildren. He has volunteered since 2018 and has a number of very colourful waistcoats which are great icebreakers with nervous or anxious children.

Janet Dobson Volunteer Fundraising Administrator (Newark)

Janet is a retired School Office Manager, bringing a wealth of administrative experience to the supporting the fundraising team.

1:1 Bereavement Volunteers

The 1:1 Bereavement Volunteers directly support bereaved children and their families, making a real difference to the lives of those that need us.
Patron & Ambassadors

As a charity we are really lucky to have the support of our Patron and Ambassadors, they are all passionate about making a difference to local children.
Community volunteer

The ideal way to help us if you would like to get involved on an ad-hoc basis and great fun as you can get involved in events and meet lots of new people.

We accept referrals from professionals and families for children aged between 3-18 years and their parents/carers affected by the death or terminal illness of someone important to them
How to Explain Funerals & Cremations to a Child

It is important to use clear and simple language when describing funerals, burials or cremation. Here is our advice for explaining these to children
Play Therapy

Play Therapy helps young children experiencing trauma due to their bereavement communicate their feelings and work through their grief using the natural form of play
Free Specialist Bereavement Support for Children & Families

The Children's Bereavement Centre is a registered charity that provides free specialist support for children and young people aged 3 -18 years as well as their parents or carers who are affected by the death or terminal-illness of someone important to them.
Training for Professionals

We offer a number of training sessions for professionals, who want to build on their knowledge and skills to support children and young people affected by the death or terminal illness of someone important to them.

Pre-Bereavement Support

We also work with children who have someone close to them who have been given a terminal diagnosis.
